GEORGE GRUHN, guitar expert

Godfrey Harris new book is an extremely helpful guide to help collectors organize, catalog, and systematically arrange knowledge, including the provenance of a wide variety of collectible items. While many people accumulate fine arts, musical instruments, and numerous other collectibles, unfortunately many of them simply rely on their own personal memory of events. When they fail to preserve provenance documentation and do not systematically organize knowledge of the items in their collection, this detracts from the value of these items when the context is lost. Proper cataloging of a collection is also essential for insuring these items for their true value and in the case of donating to a museum or foundation or for estate planning. Godfrey Harris's new book provides a step-by-step organizational guide which can be extremely helpful for anyone starting a collection or for people who have already accumulated a collection, but have not yet carefully cataloged their acquisitions. --

ART DETMAN, Advertising and Public Relations Advisor

It is now apparent to me that so much of what we enjoy at museums of all kinds had its origins in collections assembled by very determined, perhaps obsessive, men (mostly, I suspect) who made acquisitions not for posterity but for their own rather selfish enjoyment and sense of order and achievement. --
